MERLINO's STORY
This is the first picture I received from a lady in Dukhan, asking if I could help this dog to find it a new home. Little did I know that he would turn out to be a very special and lucky boy in the end.
Merlino is a Saluki racing dog. After an injury to his leg, he was dumped in the desert near Dukhan because he could not race anymore. A good lady-friend of Merlino's found him and brought him to the Qatar Veterinary Center. He was covered in tics, skinny, malnourished, scared. After two weeks of treatment, he was tic free, clean, healthy, vaccinated and ready for a new home. But with Salukis being a very common breed in this region and because of a mistaken belief that they make difficult pets, it often takes longer for them than other breeds to find homes.
At that time I was preparing to send another Slauki rescue dog "Scooby" to the States, where I have a group of wonderful people who are always willing to help yet another rescued Saluki; STOLA and Robin. I can't thank them enough for all the fantastic work they are doing!
Anyway, my friend called me a couple of days before "Scooby" was due to leave for the States and asked me if she could adopt Scooby herself. So that left me with everything arranged for a dog to go to the States, but no dog!
And then I remembered "Merlino"........
So I made a couple of phonecalls and in no time Merlino was booked to leave to the States; he was to travel on the same flight as my best friend's husband so I knew everything would turn out great for Merlino.
